Hi all
I bought a track ir3 pro and the first few attempts at using it ended in major migranes!! After a visit to the naturalpoint forums there tech support guy Wayne emailed me his il2 profile. Wow what a difference.
Head movements were very small but i was getting smooth veiws all around. The only thing i fiddled about with was the deadzone on the forward view just to calm it down a bit.
Had it about 3 weeks now and would highly recomend it, i now find that in a dogfight i can follow my opponent where ever he goes even in tight turns. All i got to do now is actually hit him when i fire!!

ps have a look at the video on the naturalpoint website it's spot on.

Phew...thats a bit of luck.

Just ordered it from RC Simulations before reading this thread.

They have stock will despatch from Bristol for next day delivery. Ordering process was a bit backward, but they seem nice on the phone.

I ordered from eDimensional who have a depot in Bristol afaik (probably same place)

A word of advice, at first you will hate it for aiming, but after a few days you will LOVE it and will wonder how on earth you got on without it!

Also having the POV hat open for other commands is nice, I've got up set to toggle trackir on/off so if I am twitching or just having difficulty aiming I can turn it off and so the screen stays still.

The profile I use is the plain old linear, at first it's a bit tricky to keep head still, but aslong as your back is resting against the back of your chair it should be ok. :)

Also worth noting to have a button assigned to center view, so at any time you can center view to match your comfort :)

it's cheaper than I thought.

£80 for the 3 PRO, and only 60 for the IR2.

I was outbid on an IR2 at £60 on ebay......

Will Piccy up early next week before the kit suffers from "Clingy fatigue".

You may also wanna know that since I changed my CH Pro Pedals under warranty that I now find the new ones invaluable. The first set just must have been a tea-break job. Whether it's worth spending £100 is still doubtful though, but I am finding them much easier and better to use.

It's no where near that bright (nor pink :p) the phone picks up the IR better than human eye I suppose :)

And leave my wallpaper alone!! It's atleast twice my age.

BTW, when you get yours Clingy, if you got the TIRPro3, don't use the software that comes on the CD, it's the wrong stuff, get the softeware from naturalpoint.com. :)

W2k shouldn't require different software to WinXP, but the plonkers put the wrong software on the CD (they put a different products software on - SmartNav)

I used to put it on the monitor, but it's a bit too high for it there, everytime I look down the spot 'disappears' from the trackir's view and it goes mad.

Also worth noting that if you have a light behind you, you may need to turn it off as it will show up on the TIR's tracking and cause conflicts.

Well done Bob.

Do you get any interference from several units in the same room? I hope not, else the LAN's will be mayhem

No, you don't.

They don't work in the same fashion as Bluetooth, or Wireless periperhals (mouse/keyboards/headphones) etc.

They use the directional IR rays to detect the reflective stickers.

Lights and hot objects cause interference though, such as ones thumb centimetres from the unit (:p), or a light bulb behind the user.

You can view a "tracking screen" that shows exactly what the unit sees, so it's easy to work out what is causing the interference if you are getting any.

Now using "linear" on the Track IR, Thorn. Took me a long time to get used to the movement thing.

Linear is what I use aswell, I tried making a "sloped" profile, but linear seems to be the only way I think  :bob:

Started using it last night and it certainly appears to be the way to go. I've also started turning it off for simple transit flying or even for ground target ID reverting to Hat switch. But for combat and sky searching it goes back on.

so..how's everyone finding it now.

Its mid June and lots of MA have had a Track IR for a while.

Worthy? Is it like Power Steering? Once you've had it, losing it is like losing an arm ;)?

Always have it on, use it for scanning the skies, but switch it off when I'm close in and personal....

When I turn if off it feels well weird (only on diving bombing runs).

It's all natural and instinctive now. I'm sure I could go back but it would take a couple of weeks to adjust again.

lol, Neil....you'd get some funny looks! Thorn had the vector expeansion pack and although not supported by IL2 he did say it provided better tracking.

yeah I had heard that. Vector Expansion I think is a great idea - shame the cockpits of il2 will not support it

It stops the sideways head movement from turning you POV, so if you don't look it doesn't turn :)
