next generation cooling

Does anyone here own the "next generation" kind of chips?

i.e. AMD 64 bit chips or P4 550 series above and dual core.

I own one of the P4 550 series+ and can get a idle temp of 50C (during the summer-winter almost 10C less). I was used to my old 480 P4 that NEVER reached over 45C in stressed mode and was quite concerned about over heating. However, i read that this is a big issue and am not alone with these concerns. These next generation chips can produce some serious temperatures.

I have installed

Zalman CNPS7700-ALCU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler
Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste on CPU and GPU chips
YS-TECH FD1238 120mm Fan - Output - 125CFM {Blows IN}
Akasa System Exhaust Blower {Blows OUT}
Zalman ZM-2HC2 Silent Hard Disk Heatpipe Cooler
Arctic Cooling Rev.2 ATI 5 (X850 Series) cooler on my ATI PCI-e X850XT {Blows OUT}
Vantec Spectrum Fan Card {Blows OUT}
Memory coolers
Zalman ZMF1 80mm Silent Case fan. (Blows IN}

The air circulation is well distributed & smart fan set to 100% @ 55C.

BUT still temps are rather high, although lower than when this stuff wasnt installed.

Am thinking, did i waste my money and i should have invested in this thing:

not too expensive AND IS SILENT!!!!! but the question is does it bloody work?

Anyone else have similar problems or any tips?

Well the new Intel chips are known for getting hot, tbh intel have been pushing the old technology for years, I hope to god that there actaully designing something new somewhere cos die shrinks aint helping them, there adding more cache n stuff to the chips to keep up with AMD but the fact is there behind technologically....

Got an AMD 64/3200 Venice here sat in an Abit AN8V board, CPU temp is 49oC, case is 43oC, Room temp is 34oC....

The zalman is bulky and is not efficient. Try this one. I just bought it and it rocks. I have my comp 860mhz overclocked and temps never go over 45c.

I have A64 3000+ Retail stock cooler with Asus Cool & Quiet software.

It IS cool and quiet with temps around 40C. It is by far the coolest and quietest set-up I have had. So I'm having trouble believing that all these "aftermarket" coolers are worth anything.

these bloody heatwaves dont help much either. i live in a fairly old house. built for the cold, with 1 inch carpets and insulator everywhere.

Anyway, apparently heat pipes are becoming popular
Zalman will release a new cooler next month and is said to be cooler than some water cooling systems.

The Zalman CNPS9500

but ill still look into water cooling.

Thing is, with that beasty in your PC, you'd need planning permission to build an extension onto your case.....

ALthough not based in anything scientific, I once again have a credibility problem with believing that some of these very heavy coolers (750 grams for the one I was looking at) could have a good contact in a tower case. I know they now have brackets on the underside of the mobo and big clamps, but all that weight pulling on a plastic mobo? It just created doubt in my mind and then someone said that the retail coolers were OK (and extra £35 to spend!), so I spend the money on a better CPU and did less clocking.

Mind you, they do look nice.

I have a AMD 64 3200+ with a Zalman stuck on it and the temps vary between about 45 idle to 60 under load on the hot days. Its a S754 chip so i have no idea whether there being read correctly but its stable so i've resigned myself to not worrying about it and waiting till it burns

As for whether any of these things work - who know, if it was down to me i'd stick to the stock cooler next time round and make sure the case has got plenty of cooling! (Quiet of course!)

well after much waiting (release date postponed) i finally got the thing (new zalman CPU cooler). This was my last hope for fan cooling otherwise i would invest into water cooling.
However, i was very pleasently suprised with its performance
before:
Idle 50-52C
Strssed: 70-74C

Now:
Idle 40-43C
Stressed: 58-62C

and its not even that big or heavy...

would recomend it if you already got a decent fan set up.
but in 3 years or so for next upgrade ill probably get into water cooling.

my computer case allows me to remove the top without removing the side panels. I did this and the CPU temp dropped by another 5 degrees C.
and there is no difference in dB when removed

so did some tests:

Idle: 35C
Stressed: 49C

Must be something wrong with my temperature gauges I guess. Still getting 32C idle and up to 45C max load on Retail A64 3000+, and it's quiet
