TrackIR4 released...

Post by MA_Thorn »

Was released a while ago, but thought it would be worth posting..

http://www.edimensional.com/product_inf ... cts_id=106

Is pretty much the only UK vendor..

Now, before you look at the price and think "OMGWTFBBQHOWMUCH?!" that actually works only £8 more than the TrackIR3 Pro + Vector Expansion (TIR4Pro comes with Vector pack incl.) .. AAAAAAAAnd it's better.. not a whole lot (so doesn't warrant me swapping my TIR3Pro for TIR4Pro, though on Friday I might.. /me pats euromillions tickets) but there are some quirks to the TIR3 that have been improved in TIR4..

the clip/stand.. on the TIR3 it's a T-bar cut from sheet metal, with a curve so it stands on feet.. makes it an absolute pain to stand on a monitor that is not <2cm thick (TFT), or >5cm thick (CRT).. I use blue-tac on mine so it's obviously not a massive issue...

The hat clip, on the one I received, the reflective pads are on the same section as the hat-clips, so it forms an arc between the two pads.. this can fool the TIR into thinking you are looking at a slightly different angle than what you are, so you end up wearing the hat like some pikey :P

Wider angle.. always a bonus :P

Double resolution.. useful for people who sit far from monitor or use a projector etc. etc. Not a problem for me with TIR3 so this isn't really a bother for me.

It looks DAMN sexy.. I can already hear the women outside banging on my door just from looking at a pic... though the missus might not approve.. but then, I doubt she would anyway.. "100 knicker on a gadget.. you could of bought me a new dress!"

Did you have a TIR3 (or other) before getting the TIR4?

Like Clingy says, I'm more than happy with the TIR3Pro so won't be changing to the TIR4pro unless I win the lottery, break the tir3 or there is something about the TIR4 I haven't seen that will change my mind.

Ooops, i thought about putting in a line "get it if you don't have any type of TIR", but forgot.

No idea what's the difference, have no experience on tir3. But I did watch tracks with tir3 and compared them with tir4 (same profile settings). TIR4 looked smoother/more precise.

All in all, TIR enables you to fly. HAT makes u... erm, wonder where you are :D

You kill like crazy and you die a lot less. If at all.

It does look a lot smoother, that'll be the 'double resolution' much like a high DPi mouse is smoother over a low DPi mouse.
